Young Sheldon’s Parents Also Play A Parental Role On The Set

In connection with the release of Young Sheldon Season 3, Mashable spoke to both Zoe Perry and Lance Barber, who portray Sheldon’s mother and father, respectively, in the Big Bang Theory prequel. At some point in their discussion, Mashable asked the duo if the show’s younger actors ever sought acting advice from them. Barber half-jokingly replied that the opposite was true and the younger actors were so skilled that he and the rest of the adult cast would go to the kids for acting advice.

Perry added that while the young cast doesn’t typically need acting help, she and Barber still raise them in other ways. “Because they’re kids, we step in as parent figures when we’re on set,” she said.

“We could give them examples of how they behave in a professional environment, for example, because that’s a weird environment for a 10-year-old,” Barber added.

In an interview about the show’s 100th episode, which will air in the first half of 2022, co-creator Steve Molaro told Variety that the show’s tone changed as the child actors grew into young adults. Presumably, just as the growth of its young stars influences the show’s content, Barber and Perry’s parental guidance also plays less of a role on set as Iain Armitage and company become more familiar with the process of filming.
