Cole Hauser said his goal with Rip Wheeler’s looks was simple: He wanted to be taller than everyone else on Yellowstone. The actor explained in a 2022 interview with Awards Daily that Wheeler’s burly looks stem from the fact that his physique is a result of the sheer work of his job rather than a set routine at his local gym.

“I wanted to be bigger than everyone else, but being country strong makes sense too. He doesn’t go to the gym. He lifts hay bales and works, so he’s not skinny and muscular. He’s just a big country strong guy. So I gained twenty pounds and most of it, I won’t lie, was weight. It wasn’t a tonal muscle,” the actor said.

Hauser added that the weight he gained was due to the kind of heavy diet of meat and potatoes that a guy like Wheeler would eat on a regular basis.

The preparation works for Hauser. The actor was named one of “People’s Sexiest Men Alive” in 2020 (per Instagram). After making the list, Hauser, who’s 6″ 1 tall, revealed he’s moving up to 225 pounds to capture Wheeler’s physically imposing look (via Outsider).
