After killing a particularly hardy monster named Brickleback, Captain Crow and his crew take their trophy to Castle Whiterock to present their finds to the king and queen. The capital is a marvelous sight, built on the water with the golden spiers of the castle in the centre. The interior of the palace is decorated with the skeletons of various sea monsters proudly displayed.
Despite her bounty of loot, the Queen is unhappy with the Inevitable’s lack of progress, as she points out that the Red Bluster, the most dangerous beast of all, still roams free. As a result, she threatens to withdraw the Crown’s support from the Hunters, prompting outrage from Crow. It is only thanks to Jacob’s intervention that Crow is not thrown in prison on the Queen’s orders.
