Why Some Fans Don’t Expect Much From Jurassic World Dominion

In a Reddit post on the Jurassic Park subreddit, u/MercuryMorrison1971 wrote that their expectations for Jurassic World Dominion were low because “every sequel failed to materialize [to] the first Jurassic Park, and they dropped in quality almost entirely back-to-back…” The user’s testimony is somewhat objective, as the first “Jurassic World” movie has a user rating of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes, while its sequel has a meager one received 48% Reviewers slammed Fallen Kingdom for its incoherent and derivative story, and Rolling Stone actually named it one of the worst movies of 2018.

u/crobek agreed with the original poster, noting that the franchise leaned heavily into spectacle and, in her opinion, has given up any sense of storytelling: “One thing that’s come to me…is that some people just want dinosaurs they wrote. “They don’t care about the writing, acting, directing or general storytelling, they just want to… see dinosaurs on screen… I think these recent films are definitely targeting that audience.”

Another user expressed his immense dissatisfaction with the upcoming entry, comparing it to another modern franchise: “Very action-heavy and nonsensical… It looks like a movie following the Marvel formula, which is disappointing.” On the other hand, it offered u/RChallenge a moderate outlook. “I suppose it’ll be perfectly usable, like ‘JW’, but it’s not going to blow anyone’s minds. Just another movie,” they commented.

We hope fans of the franchise will be impacted when Jurassic World Dominion opens in the US on June 10th.
