Long before Hugh Dillon became Sheriff Haskell in Paramount’s Yellowstone, he first joined an elite police force as Ed Lane in Flashpoint. Along with a team consisting of Sergeant Greg Parker (Enrico Colantoni), Sam Braddock (David Paetkau), Michelangelo “Spike” Scarlatti (Sergio Di Zio), Kevin “Wordy” Wordsworth (Michael Cram) and Lewis Lou Young (Mark Taylor), Dillon’s character Ed Lane helped de-escalate difficult and violent situations that regular cops aren’t equipped to deal with.
For 75 episodes Ed was the supreme leader of the unit and was applauded for his special sniping skills, at least by other officers. Meanwhile, his family, wife Sophie (Janaya Stephens) and son Clark (Tyler Stentiford), are often frustrated by how much more time he spends at work than with his family. In the very first episode, titled “Scorpio,” viewers watch as Ed leaves his wife and son to celebrate the retirement of another officer rather than attend an anniversary celebration for his in-laws. Insisting it’s just part of the job. Ed and Kevin sing a little song that says “A policeman’s job is not a happy one”.
As the series progressed, Ed and Sophie faced further difficulties, most notably when Sophie became pregnant. After a period of separation from Ed, they reconcile when Ed decides to maintain a good balance between his duties on the Flashpoint team and his duties as a husband and father.
