Why Richard Flood Left Grey’s Anatomy

Although Richard Flood’s character Cormac Hayes was always expected to pursue a romance with Meredith Grey, those plans changed when Covid struck. At the height of the lockdown, Grey’s Anatomy switched gears and began depicting the very real pandemic’s impact on the fictional Gray Sloane Memorial Hospital. This meant Hayes’ budding romance with Gray would have to wait (via Deadline). Of course, as time went on, Gray met a new love interest, Nick (Scott Speedman), and Hayes began new storylines, each of which of course reached its end.

But according to Flood, he didn’t mind being on the show for only three seasons. “Having three years on the show felt right to me,” he told Deadline. “And I think with all the developments in the story, the character’s arc probably came to its natural end, which was great. I was very happy that everyone felt the same and they just came along.”

Luckily, Hayes got one final scene with Gray to cap off their short but memorable relationship. But Flood himself will next be seen in the New Zealand TV series The Gone alongside Game of Thrones’ Michelle Fairley (via Deadline).
