To date, the role of Eärien in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is Ema Horvath’s most prominent. Director Glenn Gers’ Like.Share.Follow launched her acting career, and in the years since she’s only taken on a handful of projects. Next came her role as Auna Rue in The Gallows Act II, followed by performances as Maxine Laret in the short The Two Hundred Fifth and as Sandra in The Mortuary Collection to round out her efforts in 2019. In 2020, Horvath starred as Jenny in the TV series Don’t Look Deeper and played Liberty Wells in the movie What Lies Below (via IMDb).
Horvath told Reel Faith that given her unfamiliarity with the world of JRR Tolkien and the incredibly passionate fanbase behind it, it was a bit daunting to join The Rings of Power. “I was happy when I got the job. But then the seriousness of the fanbase kicks in. I spent a lot of time on the Reddit threads, for better or worse… If you’ve got thick skin you read that stuff,” she said, calling it one of the scariest things she could have done during filming. However, she also notes how fascinating it is to see devoted Tolkien fans discuss the intricacies of Middle-earth.
A totally original character for The Lord of the Rings: The Power Rings, Eärien is one of the most interesting elements of the show. It’s a safe bet that Ema Horvath’s potentially career-boosting portrayal of her will be a highlight of the programme, which premieres on Amazon Prime Video on September 2nd, 2022.
