Although he never appears physically in the film – hence the lack of a picture of him from the film – Omero Antonutti was still an incredibly important element in Life Is Beautiful. Antonutti serves as the film’s narrator (albeit uncredited), and it’s a job he’s perfectly suited for, having long used just his distinctive voice in projects. While he has appeared on screen in a number of films and television shows, Antonutti is best known for the Italian dubbing of many major Hollywood productions.
Antonutti has been the Italian voice actor most often for Christopher Lee, notably dubbing Saruman’s lines in all three The Lord of the Rings films, as well as Count Dooku in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith. Other leads, for whom he has voiced in several films, include Donald Sutherland, Robert Duvall, Christopher Plummer, and James Cromwell (via AntonioGenna.net). However, he has had some memorable on-screen roles – including parts in the acclaimed Spanish film El Sur and Spike Lee’s Miracle at St. Anna. His last film, Hammamet, was posthumously released in 2020, a year after his death at the age of 84.
