Following the disturbing snippet of the debate show that precedes this beautiful and Game of Thrones-esque title sequence, our first proper introduction to the corner of The Last of Us world is starring Sarah. Waking up to a fairly sunny morning, it’s not her that we see first, but a breeze blowing off her windowsill. This would be a gorgeous little take for your regular audience who don’t yet know their Bloaters from their bills (soon to be in the form of Nick Offerman). For those well educated in the world before it hit television screens, this will no doubt be a flashback to what they first saw in The Last of Us.
An open window is actually the opening game menu for the original game, released a whopping 13 years ago. Unlike its successor’s menu in The Last of Us Part II (which we won’t reveal here), it doesn’t have much significance to the story, it’s still an iconic point in the history of the franchise. It’s fitting that his next big leap rides the same current before tearing our hearts out again. Expect more little nods like this when we pull ourselves together (little curtain humor there) when The Last of Us returns next week.
