What Lisa Marie Presley Really Thinks About Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Biopic

Priscilla Presley isn’t alone in her appreciation for Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” film.

take to her Twitter account On May 14, Lisa Marie Presley – the daughter of Elvis and Priscilla – announced that she, too, was blown away by the biopic. “Let me tell you it’s just spectacular,” she tweeted. “Absolutely exquisite. Austin Butler beautifully channeled and embodied my father’s heart and soul.”

That’s remarkable praise for Butler’s acting, given Presley’s connection to real life. Speaking to Vogue last month, Butler recalled spending years teaching himself piano and guitar when he was younger, to the point where his fingers were bleeding. But it wasn’t just his musical talent that got him the role. Butler has a heartbreaking real-life connection to Elvis – the death of their mothers – which also helped him channel an emotionally charged and compelling acting performance. “Elvis’ mother died when he was 23, as did I,” Butler said. He told Vogue about a nightmare he had before auditioning for Luhrmann, which heavily influenced his approach to the role of King. “My mother was alive again, but she was dying,” Butler said. “And it felt so fresh and so painful… I thought [Elvis] He probably had nights when he woke up from such nightmares. So what can I do with it?”

According to Luhrmann, the result was a feat unheard of from the other actors who attempted it. As Luhrmann Vogue said. “From the moment I met Austin, he carried something of Elvis with him.”
