In a cast interview with Variety, Wes Bentley said viewers can expect tensions between the Dutton children to worsen. He highlighted the relationship between his character Jamie Dutton and Beth Dutton as one to keep an eye on.
“[Beth] didn’t have love for Jamie — and maybe hasn’t for a long time, although he really wanted to,” Wes Bentley admitted. He explained that Beth and Jamie are now ready to engage in a heated feud and explained that Beth forcing Jamie to kill his birth father is the straw that broke the camel’s back forced, he has no more love for her. So now we just have a direct hate fight.”
Bentley also noted that Jamie’s relationship with his father may also be headed for rocky shores. He noted that John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who takes over as governor, will cause problems for Jamie as well. Bentley explained that John’s political skills may have been lacking and Jamie would take it upon himself to make sure his father ran things politically correctly, “but also not shoot himself in the foot, which seems to be his favorite thing to do.”
