Read Time:1 Minute, 16 Second

Speaking to Yahoo Entertainment, Wes Bentley said that he and series creator and writer Taylor Sheridan always envisioned the show as “Greek tragedy set in the great heavens.” Bentley continued, saying, “Well, that’s how I did it [would describe] Beth and Jamie, this is a brave Greek play relationship between them [is] complicated.”

The quarrels between a brother and sister, the important role of lineage and multiple generations, the animosity towards one’s father, sleeping with the enemy of the family – yes, this ticks many boxes of Greek tragedy. John, a grim rancher with a cutthroat family and a recently won governorship, makes a good Greek tyrant figure. Perhaps the Greek tragedy commentary will also shed some light on where the rest of Season 5 is headed. Is Jamie doomed?

Discussing his big scene with Reilly in Episode 8 and his relationship with actress Kelly Reiley, Bentley said, “We worked together on how angry she could be at Jamie because it was key … She went to a place that.” I’ve never seen her walk, it was awful and terrifying and so sad, devastating and so amazing. But that was because there we can let each other go and feel safe. He talked about how this scene not only gives Jamie power in the family for once, but also fuels a certain mistrust between Beth and her husband, Rip (Cole Hauser). We’ll have to wait and see where Beth and Jamie’s relationship takes when the show returns in Summer 2023.
