For the study, investigators used operational MRI scans to examine brain activity while 20 participants with a record of migraine and 20 persons without a history of migraine watched films to endure a virtual rollercoaster.
“While migraine is an unseen condition, these imaging data corroborate dizziness and motion sensitivity, prompting us to consider therapeutic options beyond a headache,” Monteith said. “These effects can be debilitating, and they can happen while playing digital video games.”
Although no one had a severe headache during the virtual ride, 65 percent of people with the condition reported vertigo, compared to only 30% of those without a history of serious headaches.
