Sam, when we first see your character at the start of Season 2, it’s after the Battle of the Kattegat, but the battle doesn’t seem quite over for him. Can you describe his way of thinking?

Sam Corlett: I suppose the loss of his love triggers in Liv an expression of the anger that has been held inside him for so long and that is rightfully directed at the people he feels [are] the cause of this anger. He’s trying to find a sense of justice. then [at] Early in season two we see him looking for Olaf, looking for that sense of justice, but it’s really a man’s breakup. He doesn’t really know what his other goal is, and when he reconnects with his sister and friend Harald, that clarity comes.

Frida, in the first season of the series, Freydis was on a mission for revenge. She was serious most of the time. But this season we see a very different side of her. She finds joy in her religion and in others who worship like her. How was it for you to play that happier, more hopeful side of her?

Frida Gustavson: It was so wonderful. It was so nice to experience that. For Freydis, season 1’s journey, as much as I love playing it, is an incredibly emotional centerpiece. Every episode there is [the] Death of a loved one in the most horrible way – people are being murdered because of you, entire villages are being burned down, seeing all your loved ones dying in your arms. It was an incredibly difficult season.

corlet: You have to meet Harald I suppose.

Gustavson: Yes, that was great.

corlet: It’s good.

Gustavson: Yes. There was also love. But in Season 2, Harald Freydis opened the door to accepting her more vulnerable side and the warmer side. It’s been wonderful to embark on that this season. As hard as she struggles to accept her beliefs and to accept that she is the last, she eventually finds this inner peace and it’s a wonderful journey.
