On January 4th, 2022, the streaming platform Star+ announced that the anime Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War will be released in its catalog in Latin America (for Spanish speaking viewers) on February 22nd, 2023!
This news comes as a shock as it has been more than four months since Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War officially premiered in Japan.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War’s Cour 1 has already ended with 13 episodes. Latin American fans consider this a rather bad decision in terms of the anime distribution market. Due to the popularity and hype behind Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, it is logical to assume that many Latin American fans have already watched the series through unofficial sites since there was no way for them to watch the series legally in their country.
Latin American viewers don’t know how to watch Bleach
Although Disney+ streamed Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War in Japan and other countries, those in the US were forced to watch the series through HULU. But this isn’t the only series anime fans are fretted about for having a lousy distribution due to Disney’s involvement. Summertime Rendering is another one that just got lost under the radar due to Disney’s poor management. Black Rock Shooter: Downfall is another anime that fans have no idea when and where it is streaming.
However, Star+ seems more on track for the release of Tokyo Revengers as the series is scheduled to simulcast from January 7th, 2023. Even though Tokyo Revengers is a very popular anime, it makes no sense that they didn’t try to do the same type of release with Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, which is just as popular, if not more popular.
Star+ has also added the entire original Bleach series to its list. This allows fans who need to catch up or refresh their memories before watching Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War to simply watch the entire series.
Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Cour 1 ran for 13 episodes, but it has been confirmed that everything that’s left of the story in the original manga will be brought into anime form in this new series. From August 2001 to August 2016, Kubo published Bleach in Shueisha’s Weekly Shounen Jump magazine. The manga’s chapters were collected into 74 tankoubon volumes.
What is the plot of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War?
Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War begins with mad scientist Mayuri Kurotsuchi noticing an anomaly occurring in the living world – caves are being destroyed at a rapid pace by unknown individuals. Mayuri worries about the fact that unless Hollows are cleansed of Shinigami and their souls are sent back to Soul Society, an imbalance will occur that will end up destroying both the Living World and Soul Society.
Meanwhile, Ichigo is spending some time with his friends when he is suddenly asked to help his old friends in Hueco Mundo who are being threatened by an unknown enemy. When Ichigo arrives in Hueco Mundo, he faces a Quincy, which surprises him greatly since his best friend Ishida Uryuu is said to be the last Quincy alive.
At the same time, a large group of enemies suddenly appear in Soul Society and start wreaking havoc. It is later discovered that these enemies are the elite soldiers of the Quincy Empire known as the Star Knights. Yhwach, the Quincies’ father, who has awakened after a thousand years of sleep, leads them into battle against the Shinigami. The 13 Court Guard Squads appear defeated in the face of this new enemy and all hope seems lost. It will be up to Ichigo to protect those he cares about, but will he have enough power to do so?
