The opening trailer for “The Watchful Eye” was released on YouTube on January 11, 2023 and is certainly not convincing. Right at the beginning we learn that the murder of Allie Ward (Emily Tennant) will be the focus of the series. Her aunt, Mrs. Ivey (Kelly Bishop), isn’t convinced it wasn’t a bad game, so she seems to hire Elena Santos to get to the bottom of the mystery. She instructs her to keep her eyes and ears open during her stay in the Greybourne apartment building just in case she sees or hears anything that could incriminate the person – or individuals – responsible.
As Santos tries to figure out who made eight figures off of Ward’s death and likely orchestrated the whole thing, it turns out she’s harboring some secrets of her own. She has strange dreams about her time at Greybourne and she is interested in getting rich with the family behind the complex as well. Her criminal accomplice is Scott Macedo (Ecker), and he seems anxious for Santos to make it without ruining their plan before they get a handle on their payday. Can she do that with Ward’s family breathing down her neck and the unsettling energy of the Greybourne constantly on her mind?
If the debut season of The Watchful Eye is even half as good as the first trailer, it could definitely be in the running for the best mystery shows of all time list.
