On the r/thewalkingdead subreddit, fans came to regret the end of their beloved series and to share the countless emotions the ending of The Walking Dead stirred in them. “Did they really kill the actor and film the reactions, or did everyone take sob lessons?” wrote u/burner4internet in the top comment, referring to one of the many key deaths in the series finale.
Of course, The Walking Dead, a series known for regularly killing off characters in frighteningly violent ways, had to knock out a few more main cast members in the series finale. Still, those dire expectations didn’t stop fans from feeling pure sadness as they said goodbye to some of their favorite characters on the show.
“The girls huddled and praying around Luke and Gabriel made me feel like I was actually at funerals,” u/matnerlander wrote. Luke’s (Dan Fogler) passing seemed to hit viewers particularly hard, as his poignant last words reminded his fellow survivors to remember the good things in life and not let this heartless world rob them of their humanity.
“I was fine until Eugene knelt in front of the brick and introduced little Rosie,” u/notjustsad said, referring to the death of Rosita (Christian Serratos). Eugene (Josh McDermitt) named his new daughter after Rosita in a sad final sign of respect and importance, adding a palpable sense of emotion to the loss. While The Walking Dead has finally been laid to rest and three more spin-offs are on the way, AMC doesn’t seem to be finished with this world yet.
