The Two Actors From The Last Of Us Game Who Are Returning For The HBO Max Series

Read Time:1 Minute, 12 Second

Video game players will know that any adaptation of The Last of Us will not be the easiest viewing. The post-apocalyptic series explores the ramifications of the end times and issues that go to the heart of what it means to be human. Both Ellie and Joel must make difficult decisions to survive. One of the major conflicts occurs with Marlene, a leader of the rebel group known as the Fireflies. Merle Dandridge is voicing the character in the games, and according to Entertainment Weekly, she is the only actress who will portray her video game persona in the live-action version.

Marlene initially appears as a kind of protector of Ellie. But that all changes when she realizes that Ellie may hold the key to a cure for the global infection that can only be removed through surgery. The only problem is that Ellie won’t survive the procedure. Although Marlene cares for her, she ultimately decides that sacrifice to save many is the only option. Though the majority of the video game cast won’t be brought back for the HBO series, Dandridge is the outlier. She resembles her video game character and has already proven she has the acting skills to pull it off. And while she’s the only one playing the same role in the games and the show, she’s not the only video game grad to join the cast.
