Read Time:1 Minute, 3 Second

Christopher Meloni previously played a sociopathic killer for HBO on the series Oz. But his character in her hit vampire series, True Blood, was a different breed of monster. After Meloni left “Law & Order: SVU” in 2011 (per The Hollywood Reporter), Meloni joined season 5 of “True Blood” as Roman Zimojic, the head of the Vampire Authority who wants peace between humans and the undead.

Roman isn’t just a timeless vamp. He is also centuries old, self righteous and ruthless to anyone who opposes his beliefs. Meloni commented to The Hollywood Reporter that the character has an “unyielding drive to get what he wants” but is also childish because of it: “I thought that was something [sic] kinda funny about it. Here you have this very impressive being, but underneath it all he’s a big old baby.”

The Authority’s leader only appears in five episodes, but fuels much of the season’s conflict as he searches for Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare) and pursues “mainstreaming” the vampire race at all costs. This includes killing his friend Alexander (Jacob Hopkins) and eventually capturing Russell. However, Russell uses a buggy iStake to kill Roman in “Hopeless”, ending the long-lived vampire’s life and Meloni’s run on the show.
