As previously mentioned, in the pilot episode of the rebooted “Night Court,” Judge Abby Stone makes a surprise visit to the home of former prosecutor and womanizer Dan Fielding. It’s immediately apparent that Fielding wasn’t expecting anyone, and his apartment is littered with takeout boxes. Fielding then offers Abby her condolences on the death of her father Harry. Abby asks him to get back to work, but this time on the other side of a court case. Although Fielding is immediately surprised by the request, after some thought he finally relents, providing another link between the two versions of “Night Court.”
Pointed out on Reddit by an aptly named user, u/nola5lim noted that Fielding’s apartment number is 504, which is an area code represented in New Orleans, Louisiana, where Laroquette was born. Another Reddit resident, u/MrPNGuin, also mentioned that Harry Anderson also had an actual magic shop and club in the same area, highlighting the double reference by previous apartment number.
Still, having Fielding in an apartment that pays homage to the actor’s real life is pretty smart, as Larroquette has made his love for his hometown known, NOLA reports. One can only hope that “Night Court” continues to fill its episodes with plenty of references to the previous series and the lives of the actors who make it possible.
