When Gemma thinks Jax is going to jail in exchange for Tara’s freedom in Season 6 Episode 13 (“A Mother’s Work”), the doting mother doesn’t take the idea well. To prevent this, she brutally kills Tara in the kitchen. Later, Jax comes home in quite a good mood, but his world collapses when he sees his love’s body. He sinks to the ground, holds her tight and gives her one last kiss, all the while crying and shaking. At one point, Jax groans in despair.
Many fans on Reddit agreed that this scene is Charlie Hunnam’s best acting in the entire series. Redditor u/Different_Prior_517 proclaimed, “This scene should be taught in drama school as someone who truly portrayed grief and utter devastation in such a realistic and well-rounded manner.” Meanwhile, u/Alwayswoke1 said, “One of the best scenes on TV. Charlie should have won an award for his performance in that scene, especially when you see other actors win for unrealistic performances.”
Most sobbed along with Jax as they watched the tragic moment. For many users, it’s the small details that make the scene so powerful. For example, u/MolassesCheap pointed out that you can hear Jax’s SONS rings clink together because he’s shaking uncontrollably.
