Series creator Hideaki Anno is perhaps best known for his role in the creation of the acclaimed Neon Genesis Evangelion anime series. Still, he’s also been busy with his Shin Universe film series, which gives iconic Japanese villains and heroes a serious makeover.

The new Shin Japan Heroes Amusement World event in Japan commemorates the “Shin Japan Heroes Universe” which includes characters such as Godzilla, Kamen Rider, Ultraman and the NERV EVA pilots. Fans have speculated if we’ll see an epic crossover hit the big screen one day.

In Shin Godzilla, the first film in the Shin universe, director Hideaki Anno gave us the most terrifying portrayal of the King of the Monsters yet, while simultaneously inventing a story that was as much about the logistics of a kaiju attack as the kaiju itself. Although a North American release date has not yet been announced, Shin Ultraman is already premiering in Japan. It’ll be fascinating to see if we ever get a live-action shot of the world of Evangelion and eventually see all of these iconic characters appear side-by-side in the same film, as Shin Kamen Rider is planned as the third component of that universe.
