Book-to-screen adaptations don’t always please everyone. The Harry Potter School of Magic Tome has many differences between the books and the movies due to length. But the good news for Soman Chainani is that his most prized scene didn’t have that fate. Speaking to ScreenRant about the production, the author noted that the Wish Fish scene was an element of the book that he couldn’t part with. “I felt like this was such an iconic scene in the book and one that everyone held very close because that’s where you learn about Agatha’s desire and empathy and the fact that she can’t help but want to help people . And that’s such an essential part of her character,” Chainani explained.
A big key point of the story is addressing your own misconceptions about yourself while staying true to yourself. Despite her initial reservations, Agatha (Sofia Wylie) proves why she belongs in the School for Good. While all other students use magical fish that can grant wishes, Agatha wishes something else. She wishes that everyone could go into the house they want and this shows that 100 years ago the fish was indeed human. Because she failed her previous test, the former student was turned into a fish and Agatha became the first person to ever think of rescuing her. Agatha has a pure heart and this scene shows that beautifully.
