The Scene In Weird’s Script That Convinced Daniel Radcliffe To Sign On To The Al Yankovic Parody Film

“Weird,” of course, shows Radcliffe’s Yankovic spoofing several big hits throughout his career, including Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” with “Another One Rides the Bus” as well as Madonna’s “Like a Virgin” with “Like a Surgeon.” But the film takes an odd turn, for lack of better words, when it writes “an original song” entitled “Eat It” — and then freaks out when it learns that “The King of Pop” Michael Jackson recorded a very similar-sounding song titled “Hit It”.

“When I got to that point in the script, the joke about ‘Eat It’ was brilliant,” Radcliffe recalled for Looper. “I said, ‘Oh, okay, I see,’ and it marks the turning point as we go into a really alternate universe in the movie.”

As inventive as Yankovic’s “Eat It” https://www.looper.com/”Beat It” breakdown was, there was one other scene that Radcliffe said he couldn’t wait to film. It appeared in the film’s dinner sequence where Pablo Escobar’s (Arturo Castro) henchmen kidnap Madonna in order to lure Yankovic to his Central American compound to play the dreaded crime boss’s birthday party. What follows is an action-packed scene where Escobar’s goons pay a heavy price and Yankovic demonstrates his martial arts mastery.

“One of the scenes that I was really looking forward to and ended up loving because I love stuff like that is the fight scene at the diner because we had so little time to shoot it and it’s such a crazy scene .” said Radcliffe. “There’s no such scene in this movie at all, but it was so great. I really enjoyed that.”

“Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” with Rainn Wilson as Yankovic’s music mentor Dr. Demento streams exclusively on The Roku Channel.
