The Rings Of Power’s Arondir Explained

Let’s start with a brief synopsis of Arondir based on the most solid facts available: clues and isolated facts from promotional material. These are the things that concrete cases are built on. Seriously, we don’t have much to say about Arondir just yet – and we won’t until his role in the larger Rings of Power storyline is seen in detail on the streaming screen. Still, the breadcrumb trail we’ve been given thus far is beginning to paint at least a vague picture of the immortal Elf.

First, Arondir is played by Ismael Cruz Córdova. This is significant because Córdova was born and raised in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, and is one of the first actors to, in the words of Harfoot actor Sir Lenny Henry, “shift the needle” for people of color in Middle-earth. Notably, he is the first colored human to play the role of an elf in this world.

Within the story itself, we know some details about Córdova’s character. For example, he is a Silvan Elf. Interestingly, this puts him in the same category as other wood elves, such as the denizens of Mirkwood and Lothlorien. Interestingly, Arondir will also be in the southern region of Middle-earth and according to our research little is known about elves living too far south. (More on Arondir’s whereabouts in a moment.)

The final point to point out here is the fact that Arondir’s armor also features a mysterious face covered in leaves. Could it be an Ent? Or perhaps the Valar and Hunters, Oromë? That would suit the Silvan Elf attitude, but only time will tell.
