The Rare Motorcycle Part That American Pickers’ Mike Had To Fight Hard To Score

Read Time:1 Minute, 19 Second

During this trip to Texas in the Season 4 episode “Pinball Mania,” Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz visit a massive junkyard owned by a burly man named John. Almost immediately, Mike grabs Indian Motorcycles’ rare but rough-and-tumble, partially rough-hewn rooster subframe tucked away in one of John’s garage units, and he doesn’t hesitate to make an offer. The problem is that John is clearly a collector, and as Frank wisely points out, “Often people who are collectors are not sellers.” Indeed, the owner of this rare frame (made in the early 1900’s) is initially steadfast in his intention to keep the piece even after Mike bid $1,000 for it. As any American Pickers fan knows, Mike is not easily deterred when he sets his sights on a pickaxe, and promptly tries to pack the coveted frame with a handful of other items.

But even this tactic initially proves to be unsuccessful when John thwarts a second lucrative offer from the “American Pickers” host. Mike is clearly licking his wounds a bit and still planning on finding a way to get to that Rooster Tail frame. After finally striking a deal with John for an unrelated item, Mike returns to the Indian frame and eventually strikes an expensive deal after wrapping the item with a pair of vintage motorcycle wheels. All told, the entire Kit ‘n’ Caboodle Mike costs $3,500. But if he gets the nearly $5,000 he claims he can get for the items, it’s more than money well spent.
