In a movie franchise so rich in potential, Ballerina must have seemed like a no-brainer. The concept was first addressed in a scene from John Wick: Parabellum, in which Wick approaches the director (Anjelica Huston), who runs an assassin ballet academy. This provides the background story for the main character that will be featured in “Ballerina”. Though details are being kept secret, the film will reportedly star one of these academy graduates seeking revenge after killing her family.
The success of John Wick makes a female-centric action film an exciting prospect. And there can’t be a better choice for the role than Ana de Armas. The actress has recently garnered attention for her work in upscale action movies like Blade Runner 2049 and No Time To Die. Comicbook.com reported that de Armas was officially announced as the lead at CinemaCon. A big name like de Armas is sure to draw audiences to the theater in droves. Along with her rising popularity, the John Wick universe has created a unique world that Ballerina can certainly build upon.
Fans may have to wait some time for the release as filming hasn’t started yet. However, new John Wick content is just around the corner as the forthcoming fourth film in the flagship series is set to hit screens next year.
