The acrobatic Mark Dacascos has mastered a number of roles outside of his role as The Chairman for the Iron Chef series. According to IMDb, one of those characters just happens to be Zero in John Wick: Chapter 3. Zero is an assassin who, like Wick, was excommunicated from The High Table, but was hired to take Wick out. He admittedly admires Wick’s style and considers it an honor to be given the opportunity to assassinate him.
Dacascos admitted to Vulture that he was unexpectedly transitioned from a game character to the main villain after being told another actor would fill the film’s villain lead. He recalled settling down to read the script on the flight to accept the role in California. “This is only the second time I’ve read the script. I’m excited, but I’m also like, ‘Holy smokers! I need to piece this guy’s backstory together. I have to get into his bones and feel,” he told the website. He also said that Zero’s look — complete with a shaved head — was his idea.
Among many other roles, the prolific Dacascos has portrayed Eric Draven on the syndicated show The Crow: City of Angels, Wo Fat on 17 episodes of the CBS reboot Hawaii Five-O, and Mani on Brotherhood of the Wolf. He was also Jimmy Lee in the theatrical version of Double Dragon. There’s no word on whether he’ll be in the upcoming Netflix reboot of Iron Chef, but he certainly remains busy.
