The Hunter Exam Phases Ranked Worst To Best

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 18 Second

Given the investigative nature of the hunting profession, it is not surprising that finding the exam location is a test in itself. Gon, Leorio, and Kurapika all meet randomly on the way to the exam, and their interactions with each other and with the ship’s captain help them pass the very first stage.

Another challenge comes in the form of a nonsensical riddle with no correct answer. It’s one of those classic anime moments where both the problem and the solution are kind of silly, but according to the world of the show, the characters are special and smart to figure it all out. That’s something a viewer with no sense of humor might complain about, but we don’t think even the most serious anime fan would object to the random crowing that crops up during this prelude.

The final part of the pre-examination tests participants’ observational and analytical skills to see if they come to their own conclusions or simply believe what they are told. A family of shapeshifting Kiriko rises to the challenge. In Japanese, the name Kiriko (凶狸狐) uses the characters for tanuki and kitsune, two yōkai famous for shape-shifting and playing tricks on people.

Gon stars in this challenge, using his animal instincts to tell identical Kiriko apart and figure out the trick. The Kiriko are very impressed that he was able to tell them apart, suggesting that this isn’t the standard way to pass this part of the exam, although we don’t know how other candidates got through.
