During a recent interview with GQ, Brendan Fraser broke down some of his most iconic career roles. Speaking about “The Mummy,” the actor recalled director Stephen Sommers repeatedly yelling at the cast to “don’t suck” through a megaphone.

“One of [Sommers’] His favorite instructions were, “Done… and… don’t suck! Action!’ through a bullhorn,” Fraser said, laughing. “And we’d like to… Things would explode and things would fall and then animals would be set on fire… ‘Okay, we’ve got it! Let’s do this again!'”

Fraser fondly recalled how passionate Sommer was during filming of The Mummy and that this hilarious anecdote is just another example of the director’s infectious enthusiasm on set. Fraser concluded, “I loved doing this movie,” emphasizing how much fun it was working on Sommers’ set and receiving that kind of direction. While “don’t suck” doesn’t seem like the most helpful piece of advice to give an actor about to pull off a dramatic scene or life-threatening stunt, it’s clear that Fraser took it easy – and that this hilarious play was directed by Stephen Sommers and he still fondly remembers it to this day.
