Homelander wants to oust Vought CEO Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito), who recruits Congresswoman Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) to rule the superhero with legal fees and public criticism. However, it seems that Edgar, after keeping Neuman under his thumb for years, misjudged her loyalty. In exchange for a dose of Compound V to protect her daughter, Neuman allies with Homelander and accuses Edgar of conspiracy to the press. Edgar is forced to take leave from Vought, leaving no one to keep Homelander at bay. Edgar certainly tutored his adopted daughter well, and Neuman plays power games under the radar while Hughie goes in search of Soldier Boy.
Thankfully, Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) has prepared for that eventuality, training to ensure she’s in her best form when it finally comes time to team up with the Boys and battle Homelander. To improve their chances, Starlight recruits Supersonic to the cause. Unfortunately, Supersonic doesn’t fully understand the gravity of the situation and foolishly trusts A-Train, who immediately betrays him to Homelander.
After murdering Supersonic, Homelander takes Starlight to a rooftop, where he frivolously presents his mutilated corpse to her. Once again, Homelander reminds Starlight that he’s in the driver’s seat, leaving her resigned to play the role of dutiful girlfriend. It seems there is little hope in sight for our heroes, but with Soldier Boy on the loose, anything could happen.
