When we think of actor Ciarán Hinds, who plays former MI6 boss Angelis, we think of his legendary status. Best known for his roles in Above Suspicion, Shetland and films like Belfast, it’s quite a surprise to see someone so downright nasty. Ever since his assassination attempt in the first episode, it’s been clear that Angelis is playing the entire organization – made even more painfully evident when his collection of private files is revealed. In the finale, he ups the ante, eventually stating that Adam committed an act of treason to declare his death.
This is a bold and morally rude move by Angelis, but it makes sense given what he’s trying to hide. As the final episode begins, all of his secrets are revealed as Audrey learns of the Russian conspiracy and Malik discovers his ongoing blackmail. Here Angelis engages in the ultimate villain mode, stopping at nothing to desperately tie up any loose ends. It remains to be seen if viewers got the point of what Angelis is fully capable of. The season finale does much to show the seeds he’s sown, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see even more revelations in possible future installments.
