The Dark Reveal In Andor’s Post-Credits Scene Answers An Age-Old Star Wars Mystery

This revelation, currently unknown to Cassian, certainly helps explain some of his motivation in Rogue One. Cassian is certainly not committed to the Rebel Alliance cause in Season 1 of Andor. He just wants to get paid, pay off his debts, find his sister and be left alone. While he doesn’t love the Empire in any way, he certainly isn’t trying to bring down the oppressive regime. Of course, as Season 2 begins, Cassian will be much more dedicated to the cause, especially considering what his adoptive mother Maarva (Fiona Shaw) said in a recorded message after her death.

The teaser scene with droids assembling the Death Star at the end of “Andor” and the fact that Cassian had been working on the Death Star all along was something the series had always been working towards. Speaking to Polygon, showrunner Tony Gilroy said, “We got into prison and building the role pretty early on. It was like ‘Oh, they should build the Death Star.’ And then, you know, you follow that forward and it’s like, ‘Oh, you know what? We should show that.’ The visual effects department just loved the idea. And they complied.” Still, it will be interesting to see where Season 2 of Andor goes and how much Cassian will change in the upcoming course of events leading up to the events of Rogue One.
