The BoJack Horseman Episodes Fans Want First-Time Watchers To See

Read Time:1 Minute, 6 Second

Whenever “BoJack Horseman” takes up the theme of death, it almost always manages to be both profound and inappropriately funny at the same time. It’s no different with “Free Churro,” an extraordinarily charged episode in which BoJack delivers a eulogy at his mother’s funeral. By the time Season 5 Episode 6 rolled around, attentive viewers were already aware of the complicated relationship between Horseman and his mother, Beatrice. Her death was always a pivotal moment in the series’ plot, and Free Churro handles it exceptionally well, interweaving BoJack’s eulogy with some of his mother’s most important memories.

It’s one of (if not the) most emotionally powerful episodes of the entire series and holds a special place in the hearts of many BoJack Horseman fans for exactly that reason. As u/2hourstowaste put it in a Reddit post, his condition after watching the episode without seeing anyone else matched the overarching theme: “I have every symptom of crying except for the actual tears. Sadness, tension and a lump in my throat (…) all the pain but no relief.” As this post demonstrates, Free Churro is capable of evoking strong emotions even in people unattached to the characters, eh perhaps serving as the best encouragement for first-time “BoJack” viewers to give this one a try.
