Terrifier 2’s Damien Leone Explains The True Meaning Of The Clown Cafe Sequence

Read Time:1 Minute, 7 Second

The clown café scene does more than just introduce a catchy catchy tune to your subconscious. According to director Damien Leone, this means Sienna Shaw (Lauren LaVera) is the only one who can defeat Art the Clown. For those who haven’t seen the film, or who have blocked that particular scene from your memory because they see how gruesome it is, it ends with Sienna pulling a sword out of a cereal box, which she uses to repel an attack from Art’s flamethrower .

This is more than just a weird dream where if she dies in the sequence she will die in real life. Leone describes it as “a divine test that manifests in Sienna’s subconscious”. He further points out that there are benevolent forces that want Sienna to defeat Art, but she must prove herself first. He later says, “If she doesn’t end up being brave and choosing to stand up to Art, she won’t be the one.”

It turns out there’s a lot of symbolism in that one scene. There are people with luggage who seem ready to board a plane, and Leone ties that to Sienna’s wings. She herself must embark on a “metaphysical journey” to be worthy of killing Art. Can she do it? You have to watch the brutal movie to find out.
