Anime fans have done their best as the box office sales of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero now make it the #1 movie in the US! Not only has Super Hero made almost twice the money of Dragonball Super: Broly, it has also surpassed Beast!

Dragonball is one of the most famous and popular franchises, but there is contention among fans. For example, what is better, classic, what is before 2013 or modern?

And will Super Hero bring the fandom together?

A declaration of love to the past

Dragonball Super: Super Hero has a pedigree that few anime films can match. It’s the 21st film in the Dragon Ball franchise, and Akira Toriyama himself worked on the Red Ribbon Army and its vehicles!

The film strives to provide an enjoyable experience for long-time fans and newcomers alike. It offers a condensed overview of classic Dragonball and references Dragonball Z!

Some would argue that there is a nod to Dragon Ball GT, but I don’t want to spoil it here. Super Hero has grossed about $16.73 million in Japan and is currently the fourth highest-grossing film of the year.

In America, Super Hero is now $20.1 million and has grossed over $45 million worldwide.

A look into the future?

The Dragon Ball Super manga keeps raising the bar, but Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is said to be set in the anime around the end of Dragon Ball Z and before Granolah, the manga’s Survivor arc.

There’s a post-credits scene that offers fans an exciting surprise, but longtime fans will really appreciate it. Will we see Gohan and Piccolo’s new forms in anime/manga?

Most likely, but there’s no guarantee when it will happen. Dragonball is far from over and we will see many new transformations!

I love everything about Dragon Ball and never tire of watching the Z Fighters triumph over their opponents. It’s fun to watch Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 and to see Piccolo train Pan felt perfect.

And seeing Gohan taking center stage with his teacher made me think back to the Saiyan saga! It doesn’t matter if you like one version or the other more.

Dragonball Super: Super Hero is sure to keep you entertained, and hopefully the next movie will give us more Broly!
