The Suicide Squad
James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is rated in the US R for “heavy violence and language, some sexual themes, drug use, and brief graphic nudity.” In the United States, anyone under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult to see the DC Comics Tentpole on the big screen, but that’s not the situation in the UK. Gunn’s film was rated 15+ by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), indicating that 15 and 16 year olds do not require adult supervision. The BBFC’s ruling has stunned British moviegoers given the violence and brutality of The Suicide Squad. In the United States, Gunn insisted on making The Suicide Squad an R-rated film with graphic depictions of violence.

The Suicide Squad Parents Guide
The Suicide Squad is a reboot/sequel to the 2016 flop Suicide Squad and a sequel to the 2020 Harley Quinn film Birds of Prey, all part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). It’s crude, evil and provocative, but it’s also exciting and has a lot of wit and clear collaborative elements. Compared to the 2016 film, this one is significantly more graphic: forecast lots of violence and gore (bodies being cut up, blown up, etc.), lots of death (including major characters), heavy weaponry, horrific combat, brutality, crashes/explosions and more, all in an exaggerated, quasi-comic style.
The use of words like “f-k”, “s-t”, “t-ts”, “p–y” and others demonstrates the strength of the language. Characters humorously engage in active (but not explicit) sex, causing the room to fall apart and objects to smash onto the floor. Boobs, chests, and a penis are mostly in the background, but there are a few glimpses of it. There is some gendered language and gestures in this film. Characters in the film smoke and drink, and one uses heroin. Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena and many other well-known actors appear in the film.

The super secret, super shady Task Force X is whisked away to the remote, enemy-ridden island of Corto Maltese, where Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker and a bunch of insane criminals from Belle Reve prison meet up at the super secret, the super shady Task Force X. A Belle Reve’s new group of metahumans makes a deal with Amanda Waller, the frigid head of Task Force X, in exchange for reduced sentences, much like the anti-hero team in Suicide Squad (2016). ). This time, she and her ragtag band of super-powered convicts – Harley Quinn, Bloodsport, Peacemaker, King Shark, Polka-Dot Man and Ratcatcher 2 – go in search of the Thinker, the cruel scientist who controls the mystical project Starfish , on the dangerous South American island nation of Corto Maltese. Public reaction to the age rating of The Suicide Squad 2021
Following public outcry, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has revealed why The Suicide Squad has been given an age rating of 15. The violence of James Gunn’s latest DC picture has stunned most who have seen it in the UK, with many saying it should have been rated 18 instead. People questioned the BBFC’s decision on social media, with one viewer calling The Suicide Squad “one of the goriest movies I’ve seen in years” and “truly horrible at moments”.
In response, the BBFC said, “While comparatively more violent than the last film, the violence is tempered by the film’s humor and action-packed fantasy context.”
It said that “the violence and gore were toned down enough” because “the focus was on action in a comical, fantastical, superhero context.”
“At 15, our classification guidelines state that ‘violence can be severe but should not be concerned with the infliction of pain or injury,'” the BBFC added.
