Priah Ferguson has made no secret that when she booked the role of Erica Sinclair, the younger sister of Caleb McLaughlin’s Lucas, she leaned on the rest of her cast to guide her character’s path. “I learned a lot from them,” she told PopSugar. “It’s okay to be the new girl or kid on the block and learn everything.” And one person she learned from was McLaughlin. She explained how their off-screen brother-sister relationship makes this on-screen connection so believable.
One thing that helped both Ferguson and McLaughlin was that they had a lot of sibling practice at home. “We both come from families with siblings,” Ferguson said. “We just have this natural sibling instinct and energy towards each other. He’s really like a big brother to me in real life.” However, unlike many real-life siblings, they keep their on-set antics to a minimum and remain as professional as possible. “We’re here for work and we’re all so mature and have a mature mindset,” she revealed. “Off camera we will joke and be sarcastic with one another, but nothing too extreme to perhaps halt production.”
Much like the other young Stranger Things actors, Ferguson is adding to her growing roster, which also includes a recent Netflix Halloween movie, The Curse of Bridge Hollow, starring Marlon Wayans. She has also expressed interest in trying her hand in other areas of the entertainment industry. “Acting has opened doors for me to really keep an open mind on the career side of things,” she said. Regardless of what the future of her career holds, Ferguson is fortunate to have had this unique experience with McLaughlin and the rest of the Stranger Things cast.
