Before the abrupt cancellation of Star Wars: The Clone Wars in 2013, the team intended to have an arc where Yoda and the Bad Batch would have teamed up with the Wookies. It would also have explored the Wookie planet of Kashyyyk, where the growling giants would ride on the backs of four-legged, ape-like creatures (via Murphy’s multiverse). For some time only early animation concepts of the idea seemed to survive.
But it appears that Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2 is reviving that concept, as we see the Wookies in a new teaser on creatures with virtually identical designs. A comment by @matthewshort6912 on the teaser pointed this out, saying: “Dave [Filoni] said sadly almost 10 years ago about George [Lucas’] Design for the monkey things on Kashyyyk at the unspeakable CW panel… I’m so happy about that [see] these George creations are fulfilled. He may have left the franchise, but his ideas still keep it fresh.”
Others were excited to see the beasts in action, such as @tyrexthecreaturedesigner, who said, “I absolutely love the creature designs!” Similarly, @starminer14 commented, “Love that they’re finally making some of the stuff from the Use Kashyykk Bow…which was not produced.”
George Lucas’ relationship with Disney hasn’t always been the smoothest (via Insider), so using his concepts may give fans hope that his shadow on the iconic franchise will never fade.
