The highly anticipated Soul Hackers 2 has a new trailer showing more of this visually stunning JRPG that combines cyberpunk and supernatural themes. It premiered on August 5, 2022 on Atlus’ Japanese YouTube channel and provides a brief overview of the main characters, demons, villains, battles, and exploration in the game’s world.

However, this trailer came out after the English language trailer “Soul Hackers 2 – Twisted Fates” premiered on August 4, 2022 on the official ATLUS West channel. And while the two trailers share a few cinematic scenes, the English version is much shorter, missing the Japanese version’s exploration and battle scenes.

Another notable difference between the two trailers is that they announce different dates for the Japanese and western releases. Soul Hackers 2 will be released on August 25, 2022 in Japan and August 26, 2022 in western territories.

Regardless of the territory, Soul Hackers 2 will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC (available via Steam). Sega will also release the game in markets outside of Japan.

But since Soul Hackers 2 is a sequel, which series is it based on? It is part of the Shin Megami Tensei series and is a sequel to Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers which was originally released for the Sega Saturn on November 13, 1997 in Japan.

An updated Nintendo 3DS version of Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers was released on August 30, 2012 in Japan and April 16, 2013 in North America. It’s known for its contemporary urban setting and gritty, cyberpunk feel. And delivers deep and satisfying RPG mechanics.

People have become accustomed to modern conveniences and immersed in a neon-lit world full of technological advances. But behind the scenes, two organizations are fighting for dominance. Consisting of Devil Summoners, The Phantom Society and the Yatagarasu harness the power of demons in their supernatural warfare.

However, a digital hive named Aion watches from afar and eventually attains consciousness. Aion expects a doomsday catastrophe to happen soon and tries to stop it by dispatching two of its agents, Ringo and Figue.

These agents will join forces with Arrow, Milady and Saizo to deal with the enigmatic Iron Mask and his minions. Will they be able to stop the upcoming apocalypse? Well we hope there is a satisfying ending for players who play to the end.

Who voices the main characters?

We have confirmation of the following Japanese and English speakers so far:

  • Tomoyo Kurosawa / Megan Harvey as Ringo
  • Nanako Mori / Erica Mendez as Figue
  • Kaito Ishikawa / Zach Aguilar as Arrow
  • Ami Koshimizu / Erica Lindbeck as Milady
  • Masaya Matsukaza / Griffin Puatu as Saizo

Soul Hackers 2 seems like a worthy sequel to the cult favorite Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers. With promising titles like STAR OCEAN THE DIVINE FORCE on the way, JRPG fans will have plenty to choose from in the coming months.
