Homelands, meet your father. Soldier Boy found out he was Homelander’s father through the dying Mindstorm (Ryan Blakely), and Episode 7 ends with him sharing the information with his son. Both supes have openly struggled with their lack of family, so it seems obvious the pair will be teaming up – and given their level of achievement there’s little the boys, or anyone else, can do to stop them.
The “I’m your father” trope is a tried-and-true breath-taking from “Star Wars” to “The Devil’s Advocate,” but “The Boys” manages to take things to the next level, pulling them between two clearly villainous characters . While the revelation is genuinely surprising when it comes, it’s actually perfectly reasonable and even obvious in hindsight. Homelander is the product of a long scientific process, after all, and it makes perfect sense that Vought would use their most powerful supe in existence to create an even more powerful one.
Of course, there’s always the possibility that Soldier Boy just pulls Homelander’s leg. Whatever else old Supe might be, he’s proven himself to be a decent soldier – and now that he knows he can’t defeat Homelander in a one-on-one fight, it’s always possible he’s trying to get his “son” to do it Lower his cover long enough for Soldier Boy to charge up his depowering blast attack. Since this is The Boys, no one can imagine where the season 3 finale will take this budding father-son relationship, but the journey is likely to be hugely entertaining.
