In a poll of 1,500 families & caretakers, many who used or cannabidiol weed on a daily basis observed higher pulmonary infections amongst their kids in the previous year than individuals who do not.

As per the latest analysis, children that were exposed to weed users are more likely to get coughs and pulmonary illnesses as a result of secondhand smoking. Dr. Adam Johnson, an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C., said, “This study brings to light that there was a potential for secondhand marijuana smoke to be related to some of the same things we see with tobacco”.

He reminded out that the research simply reveals a relationship among the 2 and cannot establish weed causes the diseases.

“But there’s an association with caregivers that use marijuana,” Johnson said. “Their kids had a higher number of viral infections in the prior year.”

According to Johnson, no amount of secondhand cigarette smoking is acceptable and the similar may be said about weed.

“We all need to question our notion that marijuana is safer than tobacco because we just don’t know that that’s true,” he said. “We need to study this a little bit more and figure out if it’s harming our children.”

It’s possible that cigarette users lighting themselves greater frequently than marijuana smokers, resulting in less secondhand smoke for marijuana users, according to Johnson. That could make marijuana safer, he said, but it’s not a given.

In the USA in most families, either the member has a habit of smoking. In most of the cases that are considered the person has a habit to carry out smoking in a less ventilated place which drives the smoke to the kids also. With such secondary smoking, their health also has to face serious issues over a period, and hence it is better for the parents to either quit smoking or change the habit of doing so in front of kids.

Scientists found that their kids have not developed additional diseases linked to secondary cigarette smoking, like hearing loss or asthmatic, nor could they visited urgent care more frequently than kids of non – smokers.

Around 10 percent of those who responded to the study stated they used weed on a daily basis. Only about 5 percent stated they inhaled or cannabidiol just weeds on a daily basis, while 14 percent claimed they consumed only nicotine and 5percent stated they consumed both on a daily basis.

Johnson and his team researched by surveying families and caretakers where medicinal and recreational weed were both allowed. Non – smokers those responders who only consumed cigarettes were to be older, less trained, and had lower salaries than individuals who only used weed.

Individuals that used combined weed & cigarettes were more likely to be younger according to the research. Non – smokers have higher education and income degrees as users.

The results were examined by Patricia Folan, head of the Northwell Health Center for Tobacco Control in Great Neck, New York.

“For those unwilling to quit, education about tobacco-free and marijuana-free indoor environments should be strongly encouraged,” she said.

Physicians particularly pediatricians must question families & teenagers regarding nicotine or weed usage offer counsel and assistance for stopping, according to Folan.

“Proactively providing education concerning the potential for negative health effects related to marijuana smoke exposure may help U.S. children and adults avoid the devastating impact of marijuana smoke, which contains some of the same toxic chemicals and carcinogens as tobacco smoke,” Folan pointed out.

The results are reported in Pediatric Research on July 28.
