Shameless Star Steve Howey Found Kevin’s Nude Scenes To Be Oddly Liberating

Steve Howey stopped by the r/IAmA subreddit to answer Shameless fans’ questions ahead of the Season 5 premiere. Of course, it didn’t take long for a viewer to ask Howey about his frontal nudity in the long-running comedy. r/freekobe0832 asked Howey, “Is it awkward showing your stuff on camera?”

“I didn’t like the fact that I had to show my stuff because it’s not that impressive,” Howey said, “but after it was done it felt very liberating and I felt good about it. Hahaha! I didn’t get into acting to be a porn star right? I became an actor to play and express my humanity.”

Undoubtedly, Howey’s openness about being naked on a show as popular as Shameless was really refreshing and enlightening for fans. While this was a situation that would make many nervous, it also gave the actor a chance to explore his character’s humanity in a new way.

“I didn’t realize I had to express so much humanity, but it was really cool to do that,” Howey said. “I was really nervous going in but after that it wasn’t such a big deal – who cares? We are only on this planet for a short time and who cares what your looks are?”
