The overwhelmingly positive response from critics and audiences to the first riveting season of The Bear paved the way for an almost immediate renewal for the second season. Season 1 aired in late June 2022 with eight episodes, and the next episode will premiere in early summer 2023 with two additional episodes (via Variety). This exciting news has fans and critics speculating about what’s next for Carmy (White) and his crew, especially after the breathtaking cliffhanger in the season finale.
In the finale, after a whole season of money troubles, Carmy finds a mysterious stash of cash hidden in sealed cans of tomato sauce. With TV Line, Storer reveals that Season 1 acts as a kind of prologue that introduces the main story in Season 2. “It almost feels like season 1 is sort of like ‘let’s catch up,’ and season 2 is kind of like where the show really starts once we’ve met everyone and seen their backstory.” He continues, “So it was cool to just expand the world and just learn more about it.”
The balls of dough were hidden by Carmy’s late brother Mikey (played by scene-stealing guest star Jon Bernthal), allowing the family to open a new restaurant, which he appropriately names “The Bear.” Storer also says that these themes of rebirth and family will continue in Season 2, with the characters venturing into new directions of self-discovery. He specifically points to Carmy’s troubled brother, Richie (Moss-Bachrach), who was struggling to find his place in Season 1.
