Rupert Grint’s Terrifying Show Servant Reflected His Own Fears As A New Dad

In an interview with Esquire on Wednesday, Rupert Grint opened up about his new life with his baby daughter. “It’s hands down the worst show being a new dad,” Grint told the publication. Becoming a father for the first time even created a kind of identity crisis for Grint. “I don’t know, do I change my clothes now?” he joked.

Grint’s parenting responsibilities were further burdened by the fact that Wednesday, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, was born pre-vaccinated, meaning very little sleep and outside interaction, with no help caring for her daughter. He struggled with constantly wondering if she was okay. Recalling a moment when the hand turned purple on Wednesday, Grint remarked, “You think the worst, and it’s … I don’t want to go into too much detail, but the first night was just terrifying.” You can’t sleep at all, just keep checking if she’s breathing.”

It seems that sleeping is something he’s always struggled with, even before becoming a parent. “I think as a kid people were always like, ‘They died in their sleep,’ so I always thought sleep was a really dangerous, dangerous thing,” he said.

However, the scary experience of caring for a newborn was reflected in his performance on the show. “[It’s] this thing that you would do anything to get your kid back,” he told Esquire.[Parenthood] helped me a lot to understand. I think I obviously already had an idea, but I think having a kid of your own really sums it up.”
