Not long after news of Justin Roiland’s exit hit the internet, Rick and Morty fans on Reddit began brainstorming ideas for the show to cater to the new voices of the title characters. For one, u/jessebona hopes they get meta with this, writing, “I hope they reference this at least once. Like the season starts with obviously different Rick and Morty voices before they get killed and our usual Rick and Morty shows up.” Meanwhile u/c0rp_53110ut and u/BigbySamMelody think mixing some Ricks and Mortys from different dimensions is the problem of the new voices could solve relatively easily. After all, it’s not as if such cross-universe shenanigans are unknown on the show.

While Rick and Morty tries to be unrelated in-universe to Roiland’s departure, it stands to reason that audiences will still get to know its successors well for years to come. After Season 3, Adult Swim renewed the animated favorite for a staggering 70 episodes in 2018 (via Deadline). More than half of those 70 episodes remain to be completed before Season 7, meaning there’s plenty more to come from the show throughout the 2020s. It also means that fans can spend plenty of time with the new versions of Rick, Morty and all of Roiland’s other former characters as long as Adult Swim keeps up with its massive 2018 renewal.
