In an upcoming interview with SFX Magazine, quoted by GamesRadar, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania screenwriter Jeff Loveness said the character of MODOK will be a highlight of the film. Loveness, who is also collaborating on the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, claims she drew inspiration from the original comics when writing the character, while still crafting an original version of the cyborg for the MCU. “Obviously we’re very faithful to the comics with the design and the look,” Loveness said, “but then there’s that little bit extra that we put into it. I might get fired from ‘The Kang Dynasty’ if people see it, but some of my favorite moments come from MODOK and the dynamic there.”

There’s plenty to explore with the MCU incarnation of MODOK, played by Darren Cross, and Loveness says he inspired himself while writing Quantumania from Kevin Kline’s character in A Fish Called Wanda, as well as some old Die Simpsons episodes.” “His ego will collapse the second he’s challenged,” says Loveness, “but like Kevin Kline in ‘A Fish Called Wanda,’ he’s pretty good at killing people.”

In fact, Loveness says that getting MODOK right was crucial to getting Quantumania right as a whole, saying, “He’s a loose cannon character and I had a lot of fun with him. That was almost the first day in space. We cracked MODOK as a character and the movie was just so much fun.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters across the Multiverse on February 17, 2023.
