If you’re interested in movies at all, you’re no doubt familiar with Criterion Collection, the home video label that specializes in, as the company famously puts it, “essential classic and contemporary films.” The Criterion Collection now boasts over 1100 films and the brand recently made the announcement Twitter Next up is Pixar’s Wall-E.

“A pinnacle of digital animation, this prescient vision of a dystopian future is wrapped in a glitzy pop sci-fi love story that becomes an urgent fable for our troubled millennium,” the Wall-E listing continues Criterion website – something many cinephiles and Disney fans probably never expected. In addition to the Blu-ray Disc’s 4K UHD transmission approved by Wall-E director Andrew Stanton, the Criterion edition of the film will delete special features such as Director’s Audio Commentary, a 2007 documentary about Pixar Featuring scenes and more that all place “Wall-E” in a context where it seems more appropriate to call it a “movie” rather than a “movie”.

The three-disc set is slated to go on sale on November 22, 2022, and with Criterion calling it its “first collaboration with Pixar,” it’s possible we’ll see more Pixar projects in the Criterion Collection in the future.
