On the evening of January 21, 2023, Aubrey Plaza hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the first time. During the “Weekend Update” portion of the variety show, Plaza reprized her “Parks and Recreation” role of April Ludgate, much to the applause of fans in the audience. While moderator Colin Jost attempted to seek answers from Ludgate regarding the importance of local government, the Pawnee resident remained largely aloof. Ludgate was joined by her former boss Leslie Knope, while Amy Poehler reprized her role as the eager leader.

While Knope tried to make a convincing case for joining local government, she was much more interested in Jost’s job as co-host of the “Weekend Update.” “But I want you to think about this job, about this show, because I used to watch that when Seth Meyers was doing it alone with nobody else, and he made it look really easy,” Poehler said as Knope gloated to applause . After Knope tried to tell a few jokes, Knope marked the exit of her and Ludgate by revealing they had timed tickets to the M&M store.

The little reunion caused a commotion on social media, with many hoping “SNL’s” appearance was a positive sign that more was to come. “Can we get a resuscitation please? I’m rewatching it after seeing these two,” Reddit user u/JULIANGJNKS22 wrote after seeing Ludgate and Knope together. Similar sentiments were echoed by Twitter users @realtenleewho said, “No, but Aubrey and Amy, who are reprising their roles as Leslie and April, weren’t on my 2023 bingo card…I need another ‘Parks and Rec’ reunion.”
