The Origin Of The Coronavirus Remain A Mystery To US Intelligence

WASHINGTON (A.P.) — The U.S. According to the findings of a study requested by President Joe Biden, U.S. intelligence services remain split on the origins of the coronavirus. However, China’s authorities were unaware of the virus before the worldwide epidemic began.

According to an unclassified assessment, four members of the U.S. intelligence community believe the virus was first transferred from an animal to a person with low confidence. A fifth intelligence agency thinks that a lab caused the first human infection with a high degree of certainty.

According to most authorities, analysts do not think the virus was created as a bioweapon, and the virus was not genetically modified.

In a statement issued Friday, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said that China continues to obstruct the worldwide investigation, resists sharing information, and blames other nations, including the United States. According to the agency, determining what triggered the virus would most likely need China’s assistance.

The cause of the coronavirus is still a major public health and security issue throughout the globe. Many conservatives in the United States have accused Chinese scientists of creating COVID-19 in a lab and allowing it to leak.

Former State Department officials under former President Donald Trump issued a fact sheet citing coronavirus research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, situated in the Chinese city where the first large known epidemic occurred.

The scientific community agrees that the virus most likely spread from animals in a process known as zoonotic transmission. In nature, so-called spillover events occur, and at least two coronaviruses, SARS1 and MERS, evolved in bats and caused human epidemics.

Biden stated in a statement that China had obstructed efforts to investigate the virus from the beginning.  Biden says that the world deserves answers, and he will not stop working until we get them. Responsible nations do not evade these kinds of global responsibilities.

China’s embassy in Washington responded with a lengthy statement claiming that the U.S. fabricated the report and invoking erroneous American intelligence about weapons of mass destruction before the Iraq War.

The intelligence community report is based on a presumption of guilt on the part of China, and it is only to scapegoat China, the embassy said. Such a practice, which the international community has widely condemned, will only disrupt and sabotage international cooperation on origin-tracing and pandemic response.

In May, Biden directed a 90-day review of what the White House described as an initial finding that led to two likely scenarios: animal-to-human transmission or a slab leak. The White House stated at the time that two of the 18-member intelligence community leaned toward the hypothesis of natural transmission, while another leaned toward a slab leak.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence did not specify which agencies supported which hypothesis on Friday. However, it noted some of the same challenges that the World Health Organization and scientists worldwide are facing: a lack of clinical samples and data from the earliest cases of COVID-19.

Intelligence agencies conducted the review in consultation with allied nations and experts outside of government. An epidemiologist was appointed to the National Intelligence Council, senior experts who advise the intelligence community’s chief.
